MTM 50 Caliber Ammo Storage Can
MTM ammo cans are a great way to store bulk or boxed ammo. Its all plastic design is lighter in weight than the 50 caliber US Military Surplus Ammo Can. Transferring ammo to and from the range, just became a little easier! Ideal for ammo storage.
Molded out of rugged polypropylene plastic, these comfortably handled ammo cans will hold up to some pretty harsh treatment. Utilizing MTM’s tongue and groove O-Ring seal system for a superior water-resistant seal, the 50 cal can is designed to fit the same amount of bulk ammo storage as the original. A heavy-duty dual latching system makes for a better seal and less likely to open accidentally. Double padlock tabs along with molded-in stacking ridges, make these solid containers the perfect solution to so many storage needs.

If you can find these on sale they are a good value. From time-to-time I can find them on Amazon with prime shipping for half what they are at the local sporting goods store. I love supporting local but when the price difference is a 1/3rd tank of gas…yeah I order from Amazon. I have put about 40 lbs of gear in one of these things and the handle appears to hold but I recommend going no more than 25 lbs just to be sure. You don’t want to drop 40 lbs of gear on your toe when the handle pops off. This is plastic construction and not steel so remember that. The box does come with a couple pre-drilled holes for locks which is a neat idea to keep little hands out of whatever you’ve got squirreled away in there but for real security…well it can be carried away and opened elsewhere or it can be cut open really quick given the proper tool.Pros:- Affordable when on sale and shipped with Amazon Prime- Stackable (as long as you are careful and line up the guides)- Holds a good amount of stuff…be in tools, emergency gear, range gear etc.- A great item to have to organize your stuff (I recommend you take the sticker off that says “AMMO”)Cons:- Can be a little pricey if not purchased while on sale.- The handle…I don’t entirely trust it when filled with dense items (like lead based items) all the way to the top- The holes for a lock are nice BUT this is plastic so it will only deter the hands of children (but that is also a pro)

for $10, you get a good value. These boxes are extremely tough. I’ve been using them for a while now. I mostly use them for storage at home. Mainly just to categorize and organize my ammo by caliber, brand, and weight.I filled one to the brim with loose (in small bags of 100) 9mm bullets. The weight including the box came out to 54lbs on the dot. The case does not show any structural weakness when I carry it by its handle and no bulging at the sides when sitting on the floor even with that much weight inside. However, I did notice a very small amount of sag in the very middle between the lid and body when carrying it by the handle (about 1/8 inch) but nothing that concerned me. With both latches closed I was completely confident that I could carry it around by the handle all day without issue. The sag was not enough to expose a gap but even a little gap could let moisture in so keep that in mind when you load these things up if you will be carrying them in the field and moisture or contamination is a concern. I imagine you could wrap a strap around the box and under the handle in the middle if you really had to but I feel like splitting the load up into more boxes would be the practical solution considering the price. All and all, I will continue to buy more as needed. This may be a insignificant point to most but I feel it’s worth noting. The plastic these boxes are made of do not stink. Unlike a lot of cheap plastic products you may get from wal-mart or harbor freight that have that plastic solvent smell. Which in actiuallity is exactly what that smell is when and if you do smell it. They use solvents to help liquify the plastic and if not cured or treated properly, some solvent remains and can take months/years to evaporate out. During that time, your breathing it in if you keep anything like that inside your home. So for me, the fact that these are cheap and also do not seem to have any plastic smell to them is a major plus.

I’ve ordered several of these ammo boxes in the past. They are made of a sturdy plastic, but still get the job done. They have a rubber seal that keeps moisture out, and the clasps seal the lid on tight. I do not worry about having the lid come off while carrying the box full of heavy ammo. There are also 2 spots that can be locked with padlocks or zip-ties. These are a great cheaper alternative to the metal ammo cans, and they cost less than half the price! Great value!

Ok, so this is another one of those products that either works or it doesn’t. Its a box. It holds things. I have mine filled to the brim with loose bullets and it doesn’t feel flimsy or anything. My primary goal is long term storage, so the handle and latches won’t be getting much use. The little bit I used them, they worked like they were supposed to.I managed to fit 1300 loose .223 into one with a bit of room to spare. Another one has 1600 loose 9mm and its about 2/3 of the way full.

What a terrific box~!SUPER beefy and sturdy. I was expecting a nicely made product, but not something this well done.Seriously, there’s nothing cheap or flimsy on this unit. I’m really impressed; ESPECIALLY for the cost, and it’s USA made. …think I’ll order a couple more.I don’t recall seeing anything in the product description, which specifically mentions a seal gasket in the lid channel, but it has one.My intended purpose for this box, is to store my ever-growing pile of bullion. For others who are considering the same, this box will comfortably hold 48 tubes of 20 – 1oz rounds.
