An epic battle of bears in the Finnish forests
If you ever thought you could take on a Grizzly bear, just know that:
A male Grizzly bear stands at around 1 meter at shoulder height, if standing up on it’s hind legs, it stands at 2.44 meters. A male Grizzly bear weighs around a 270kg, has claws longer than your fingers and paws that are the size of your chest. They have a bite force of 1200 PSI. A bite force 10 times greater than a human who only has an average bite force of 120 PSI.
If you try to escape and outrun it, you’re gonna have to expect to run atleast 30mph. Many people may think a bear is slow, but to put a bear’s speed in perspective: “If you were to run down a hill, a bear could run faster than that up hill.” If you climb up a tree, you might have a slight chance of escaping. But the bear has most likely reached you before you even start climbing.
If you do manage to climb up the tree a decent height, just do remember, it stands at 2.44 meters whilst standing on it’s hind legs. So it might be able to reach you and throw you back down. But if you somehow manage to climb up to the tree top without the bear reaching you, a male Grizzly bear that is not fully grown can easily climb a tree, but if it’s a fully sized bear, it can still climb up the tree, but may have a difficult time doing it. A bear can also swim, so that option is also thrown out the window.
Just remember: “You see a bear? If it’s brown, get down. If it’s black, fight back. And if it’s white, it’s goodnight.”
